Bob Arum: Pacquiao-Mayweather fight is finally off

As reported by Ronnie Natanielsz in BoxingScene.com, the super fight Pacquiao-Mayweather Fight is finally off.

The most anticipated richest fight in boxing history which was previously planned top happen on March 13, 2010 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas will not push through.

This is after no deal was settled during the two-day talk with retired federal judge Daniel Weinstein in San Diego, California.

It was learned that Golden Boy Promotions, which is the camp of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. rejected the offer of reigning pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao side that the random blood tests be done 24 days before the fight, in which the previous demand is 30 days.

It must be remembered that the Mayweather camp is insisting a Olympic-style, random testing supervised by the US Anti-Doping Agency should be done. On the other hand, the Pacquiao group wants to do blood and urine testing under a particular period of time and to be handled by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Nevertheless, Manny Pacquiao may still fight in March but with Yuri Foreman who is the current World Boxing Association (WBA) super welterweight champion. If Pacquiao shall win, it will be his 8th world boxing title.

Manny Pacquiao Worlds 2nd Greatest Ever Boxer celebrates 31st Birthday

This afternoon, Manny Pacquiao will throw a party as he celebrates his 31st birthday. The special event will be held in General Santos city, Philippines where he is also set to run for Congress in the Philippine Election 2010.

It is expected to have 2,000 visitors including friends from local show business, boxing, and politics. This of course will include his coach mentor Freddie Roach, while Miguel Cotto and Riky Hatton who both lost from Pacquiao were also invited.

As an additional birthday gift, Pacquiao was chosen as the Worlds 2nd Greatest Ever Boxer which was made through online voting.

The late Sugar Ray Robinson, who was the first fighter in history to win five divisional world championships in the 1950s landed in the first place.

As announced yesterday, online voters picked Pacquiao next after Robinson (175-19-6, 109 KOs) in the greatest ever list, one notch ahead of the legendary Muhammad Ali.

Although Pacquiao now campaigns at welterweight, he earned his nomination in the featherweight division, owing to his career-making triumphs over future Hall of Famers Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, and Juan Manuel Marquez in the 126-lb wars.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight to pursue on March 2010

The Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight will most likely to pursue as the reigning pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao agreed that the bout can be held on March 13, 2010.

Top Rank Bob Arum presented "what he thought was the best proposal he can bring" during a two-hour breakfast meeting with Pacquiao in Manila, said Michael Koncz, an adviser of the Philippine boxing idol.

"Manny has some additional requirements, requests, which Arum didn't think was a problem," Koncz said. "The requests of Manny were so realistic that Arum doesn't feel it's a problem and it's pretty much a done deal."

He said the contract still needs "fine tuning," declining to elaborate. "We all believe that it will be done," he added.

If this fight will materialize, it will be a match between two great boxers regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighters.

Boxing fans have been looking forward to this super fight between Pacquiao and the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. after the Manny defeated Miguel Cotto last month.

Meanwhile, Manny Pacquiao has already filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) as a congressional candidate for Sarangani this Philippine election 2010.

Pacquiao Cotto fight now on Pirated DVD

Yesterday, millions of boxing fans around the world watched the Pacquiao Cotto fight as Manny Pacquiao dominated the whole fight and beat Miguel Cotto with flying colors. Pacman has brought another honor to the Philippines when he set a new boxing record by being the first boxer to win seven titles from different divisions. This also proves that Pacquiao really deserves the title pound-for-pound king and one of the great boxers of all time.

While almost all of us were watching the fight, there were those who really need to work and was not able to watch. With all the glory and victory the Filipinos enjoy now, there are some who took advantage of the situation. Unfortunately, the Pacquiao Cotto fight is now on pirated DVD.

I realized this while a GMA 7 field reporter went to place where she saw a pirated copy, and interviewed a certain buyer. Take note that this is only a few hours after the said fight, and I am sure that there are also other places where pirated copies of the Pacquiao Cotto fight are available.

Actually, I already expected this but not this early. It seems that this disease is worst than H1 N1 and Dengue fever, which is really hard to cure. Obviously, the buyer could not show his face in front of the camera since this is really a shameful act. But what surprised me more is his claim that "all of us has the right to watch it". What a stupid answer!

While all of us are complaining about the corruption in the government and throwing stones to public officials, these sellers and buyers of pirated DVDs are exactly doing the same. We all know that piracy is one of the major reasons why our economy is getting worst, and I don't need to explain how. This is not only killing the entertainment industry, but also a great loss for artists, producers, and the staff.

With this, I just hope the next president will add more focus on this problem. But then, this is only NOT his responsibility but also to all of us. If we really want to help our economy grow, we should help to stop piracy.

And the best way to stop it is by not patronizing them. No matter how strict the law will be, there will always be piracy not unless we stop buying them.

If we really love our country, we should start now. To me, it only needs a political will.

Pacquiao vs Cotto: Pacman to get $20 million

Top Rank and Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum was pleased to announced that Manny Pacquiao will get $20 million with his fight against Miguel Cotto this coming November 14, 2009. Astonishingly, the Pacquiao vs Cotto fight is considered as the richest fight of the year.

As described by Arum, Manny Pacquiao is a offensive machine and an explosive puncher. Cotto on the other hand has more power because he was a natural welterweight.

“Miguel is the bigger guy, and Manny might be vulnerable to Miguel’s left hand to the body and the head. It’s how Manny reacts to those left hands that will be the story of the fight.” Arum said. He added that the fight is expected to be a “very competitive fight with lots of action” that the fans would love.

Comparing their present training; Pacman seems to be playful in his training camp while Cotto trains with the concentration of Shaolin monk.

“Miguel is quite focused in training, especially for the big fights like this one,” according to his trainer Joe Santiago. After a month of training in Puerto Rico, Cotto will train a total of six more weeks in Tampa because it’s easy for him to concentrate.

Miguel Cotto, a record 34-1, and 27 by knockouts will bet his WBO welterweight championship belt, and will receive over $10 million in the said fight.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather: Manny to Sue Floyd Sr for the Steroids issue

It is quite impossible that Manny Pacquiao will fight Mayweather Jr since the Pacquiao-Cotto will be the last fight for the reigning Pound for Pound King. However, it seems that Pacquiao will fight against Mayweather Sr, but this may be in court.

Recently, Mayweather Sr thinks that Manny Pacquiao is taking steroids, as said in a Grand Rapids Press interview. According to him, he noticed that Manny's head is getting bigger than before which may be a sign that Manny is really taking steroids. In addition, he said that Pacman lacks skills and talent to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Apparently, Coach Freddie Roach denied the accusation and said that Manny is taking tests and none of them has proved that his favorite boxer is taking steroids. Meanwhile, Manny even said he do not know the shape or color of such steroids. If there is one that makes him strong inside the ring, it is the kind of foods he eat. Pacman has been very vocal about his diet, and among the list of his source of strength are rice, meat, fruits, and soup.

For Manny, he feels that Mayweather Sr is making a gimmick to increase the sales of the Mayweather-Marquez fight. And of course, he wants Manny to fight his son, Floyd Jr.
