Apple iPhone 4 now available in the Philippines

Globe Telecoms announced on Friday, September 24, that iPhone 4 is now available in the Philippines.

The Apple iPhone 4 is the 4th generation of the iPhone series, and has also been launched recently in China.

As claimed by Apple on their website, it is a result of three years experience of designing and creating phones that will truly satisfy their customers.

With so many new features, Apple iPhone 4 have detailed explanation of each of them that they expect to impress the Filipino customers.

The first new feature that seems to be noticeable is Retina Display, wherein the pixel density is so high; the human eye is not able to distinguish individual pixels.

The 960-by-640 backlit LCD display results in a super crisp text in web pages, and email, which is now considered as the highest resolution display ever built into a phone.

In addition, the Retina Display promises four times the contrast ratio of previous models, so whites will be brighter, blacks will be darker.

Another iPhone 4 feature that can be useful to Filipinos is the Face Time, in which users can be able to make video calling.

With just a tap on a button, one can provide a real-time smile to their relatives abroad.

This iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 feature is also said to be possible to new iPod touch over Wi-Fi.

Apple also said that iPhone 4 will also use its new operating system called iOS 4, which can make users do a ‘multi-tasking.’ This is because of the Apple A4 chip Processor, Apple said.

One can now run his favorite third-party apps, and switch between them instantly, without slowing down the performance of the foreground app.

This means that he can listen to audio from compatible third-party apps while checking email, playing games, surfing the web, or performing other tasks.

Apple also proudly announced that iPhone 4 is the world’s thinnest smartphone, with a mere 9.3 millimeters thickness; while the unit is situated between two glossy panels of aluminosilicate glass.

According to them, this is the same type of glass used in the windshields of helicopters and high-speed trains.

Globe Telecom also announced that on September 26, 2010, they will host an exclusive launch event, which will be held at the Makati Shangri-la and New World Hotels in Metro Manila.

This will be for the first customers who registered online at the Globe website.

Glee Season 2 Audition: Listen lyrics sung by Charice Pempengco

Pinay International singing sensation Charice Pempengco will be a special guest in Glee Season 2 Episode 1: Audition, where she plays as Sunshine Corazon and sang the song Listen.

Now, it's your time to listen to her very powerful but charming voice as she sings 'Listen', along with the lyrics.

Listen was originally sang by Beyonce.

Listen to the song here in my heart
A melody I start but can't complete
Listen to the sound from deep within
It's only beginning to find release

Oh, the time has come for my dreams to be heard
They will not be pushed aside and turned
Into your own all cause you won't listen

Listen, I am alone at a crossroads
I'm not at home in my own home
And I've tried and tried to say what's on mind
You should have known
Oh, now I'm done believing you
You don't know what I'm feeling
I'm more than what you made of me
I followed the voice you gave to me
But now I've gotta find my own

You should have listened
There is someone here inside
Someone I thought had died so long ago

Oh, I'm screamin out and my dreams will be heard
They will not be pushed aside on words
Into your own all 'cause you won't listen

Listen, I am alone at a crossroads
I'm not at home in my own home
And I've tried and tried to say what's on mind
You should have known
Oh, now I'm done believin you
You don't know what I'm feeling
I'm more than what you made of me
I followed the voice you gave to me
But now I've gotta find my own

I don't know where I belong
But I'll be moving on
If you don't
If you won't

Listen to the song here in my heart
A melody I start but I will complete
Oh oh, now I'm done believing you
You don't know what I'm feeling
I'm more than what you made of me
I followed the voice you think you gave to me
But now I've gotta find my own, my own

Congratulations to Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs 2010 winners

My mind tells me not to make this post since it is almost a week late, but my heart cannot resist doing so.

Anyway, one year has passed away but the memories of 2009 are still fresh; as my Father Blogger dot Com was chosen as among the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs of 2009.

This year, another batch of interesting blogs came in and I cannot help but to congratulate the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs of 2010 winners.

1.0 When in Manila

2.0 NomNom Club

3.0 Facebuko
Ganda Ever So Much!

4.0 Kusina Maria
Project 52 Weeks

5.0 Fat Girl No More
Music Vlog
The Creative Dork

6.0 The Thirsty Blogger

7.0 Foodie Manila

8.0 Jay.eLx

9.0 Paolodome Edge HD

10.0 Get Prettified!

Sad to say, I was not available to vote since I am busy now with BatangasToday.

But as I checked the blogs of the winners one by one, I should say that all of them deserve the recognition.

As for The Thirsty Blogger, I was surprise to know that Fitz Villafuerte loves drinking. I am a big fan of his Ready to be Rich since 2007.

I met him a couple of times before on blogging events and I knew from the start that he can influence people through blogging.

But anyway, I am glad Ms. Janette Toral still continues to support fellow Pinoys in the field of blogging, and I know she is looking forward for 2011 this early.

And to all winners, again my congratulations and I hope you stay long in this field.

Mabuhay ang Pinoy bloggers!

New Twitter allows users to add photos and video

The new Twitter has just been launched its new service, where users can add photos and video on their Twitter page, as being published at CNN Money.on Tuesday.

Twitter, with 145 million users said the new features are only a part of their project to make the 140-character microblogging service be more user-friendly.

"It's faster, it's easier and it's a richer experience," Evan Williams, Twitter co-founder and CEO, said at the company's San Francisco headquarters.

"Simple things that are cryptic on Twitter today become a lot clearer." He added.

The new Twitter now features an extended sidebar that shows related content when you click on a specific Tweet.

This eventually helps users to save time and effort to toggle back and forth between different Web pages.

The company joined with 16 media providers, including Flickr and YouTube, to now allow users embed pictures and playable videos directly on Twitter.com.

The new Twitter.com also includes the ability to scroll down the page without having to press a "more" button.

But so far, only a few selected groups of users, including members of the media who attended the launch event in San Francisco were given access to the new Twitter.com immediately.

Twitter’s top executive however, could not say yet as to when it will be available to all.

Willie Revillame now preparing for a TV noontime show at ABC5?

There are now rumors that controversial TV host Willie Revillame is preparing for a TV noontime show at ABC5, according to PEP.ph.

According to a reliable source from the supposed upcoming TV show, some of the members of the defunct ABS CBN show Wowowee have been doing dance rehearsals more than a week now.

The group, composed of more than 30 staff and dancers resigned from Wowowee in support for Willie when the show was replaced by Pilipinas Win na Win; in which Willie immediately accepted.

While there was no formal report that Willie Revillame is being seen during the practice, a source told PEP that the TV host is there almost everyday.

The source also said that the said TV show will be co-produced by Revillame and Viva Entertainment, a production outfit by Mr. Vic del Rosario, which is reportedly close to the TV host.

If the spreading rumors will be true, the upcoming noontime TV show of Willie may not be live, and the title will be ‘Wiling-Willie Kami!’

Meanwhile, the legal battle between Willie Revillame and his former employer ABS CBN still continues.

It can be remembered that the TV host filed a P11.5-million case against ABS-CBN after his show Wowowee was removed on-air last July, 2010.

ABS CBN on the other hand, said that Willie violated ‘behavioral provisions’ and that he have no legal rights to end his contract on his own.

GMA7 24 Oras Live interview with Willie Revillame

Last night, GMA7 24 Oras Anchorman Mike Enriquez interviewed Willie Revillame. This is in line with his controversial status with ABS-CBN Network.

According to the former TV show Wowowee host, he decided to discontinue his contract ABS-CBN because he was hurt upon learning that the show Wowoweew will not continue. This is in spite of their earlier agreement that it will be back soon, and everything has already been prepared.

Here is the video of live interview with Willie Revillame in GMA7 24 Oras.

We can remember that ABS-CBN released a statement recently that

"Willie is bound to ABS-CBN by a contract until September 2011. He violated the behavioral provisions of his contract when he threatened the ABS-CBN management during the May 4, 2010 episode of Wowowee, with a resignation if management does not fire another artist of the network. His behavior was generally seen as a display of disrespect and arrogance, completely unacceptable to the Filipino public."

How I lost my job again

Unfortunately, I am unemployed again after being employed for almost 6 months. I still remember the joy I felt when I found a job again after one year of searching. That time, I did not expect that I will be hired immediately. But I never thought it will also end at once and I still wonder why it happened.

Everybody in the office cannot believe the bad news. In fact, it happened so fast that I only realized that it is real when I got home.

With this, I would like to share to you how I lost my job again.

Last February 15, 2010, I was hired as a Manufacturing Supervisor together with a former co-supervisor. We worked in the same company for almost 7 years, so we were excited to work together again. Unexpectedly, both of us lost the job at the same time and the reason is unbelievable.

After more than 5 months of being hired, the Admin Manager together with the HRD Supervisor discussed to me about my probationary status. It was about 3pm and I was busy preparing the products to be shipped-out. I know they need to be completed no matter what happen.

Anyway, the Admin Manager started the conversation by saying sorry that I will lose my job and handed me the termination paper. The first sentence stated that I did not meet the standards required, while the second sentence stated that my probationary employment will be terminated effective August 2, 2010, the day I received the letter.

Although surprised, I try to keep my composure and began thinking how to react. Then I asked them what specific standards I did not meet that caused me to lose the job. According to them, the top management realized that I did not handle the production effectively and they cited a specific condition.

You see, our production line is not a conventional one which means we have no conveyor for the flow of process. But just like others, we have a strict rule of one-by-one process or no batching allowed. Being a Manufacturing Supervisor in my previous job, we have the same rule and I know how important it is to follow this one-by-one process.

However, we experienced unexpected problems such as machine breakdown and lack of manpower. As much as we wanted to, we cannot always follow the rule but we did our best to preserve the quality of the products. There are just things beyond my control and our Manufacturing manager can explain it better.

But what kind of effort I exerted to perform my other tasks? I do not usually count my effort, but I think this time it is necessary to mention them. This is not to cover-up my shortcomings, but to remind them that I know my responsibilities as a Manufacturing Supervisor.

First, my work schedule is 8am~6pm but I know I should come early to check the lines and make a summary report for my manager. I know I cannot make it if I arrive at 7am since he needs it before 8am, which is why I voluntarily come at 6am and sometimes even earlier. I even went on a straight (36 hrs) schedule twice just to make sure that all products will be shipped on time. By the way, we have no overtime pay and I agreed on it before I was hired.

Second, I understand that sometimes we need to extend an hour or more just to finish some reports so I need not to be reminded. I usually go home at 8pm. I even bring home some office work if the target date is very stiff. We also do not have to work on Saturdays and Sundays since we have a compressed schedule, but I usually come on weekends to make reports and monitor the lines.

Third, I conducted an investigation to solve a customer claim issue that lead to the termination of one worker after confirming that he is intentionally not performing his job, skip process that is. In addition, I caught two workers playing games during working hours which lead to their suspension of five days each.

Fourth, I understand that we lack manpower so I did not hesitate to act as a worker for more than a month when they required me to fill-in. This is from 6am to 2pm which means I only act fully as a supervisor 2pm onwards. My co-supervisor had the same experience though and he also understood the necessity of the work.

By the way, I am wondering why the Manufacturing Manager (my immediate superior) and new Plant Manager were not informed about it. Both of them were even surprised upon learning it from us. Therefore, I would like to clarify things. We were not fired. We just did not meet the standards of the top management, whatever that means.

Again, I mentioned them not to lift myself but to remind them that I am very much dedicated to my work. If they did not recognize my selfless effort, so be it. I am not sharing this to attract sympathy. I did not make this post to destroy any name or company.

I am just saying that I did my best but I guess my best was not good enough.

In the end, I know I have to face the painful truth. I lost my job and the more important thing for me now is to look for another employer, as soon as possible.

Father Blogger dot Com has expired again

This is bad news, not only for me but also to my friends. Yes, Father Blogger dot Com has expired again and I am not sure if I can renew it again. The exact expiration date of my domain name is Friday,June 25, 2010 and I have to renew it within 29 days after its expiration date. Otherwise, I have to pay $190.00 or simply let it go.

Actually, it also expired last year but a lot of friends helped me. That time, it was nominated as One of the Top Influential Blogs for 2009 and eventually landed on the 4th spot.

That time also, I don't have a job and my focus is to blog and somehow making money. I met a lot of new friends who supported me all the way. Most of them even helped me financially when my wife and daughter suffered from Dengue fever.

But since my work now is eating a lot of my time and my Paypal account is empty, I don't know if I can be able to renew it again. In fact, it has been three weeks since I was last online. Actually, my friend turned-blogging mentor wanted to help me but his Paypal is also empty.

Sharing parenting and marriage tips has been my passion since I started blogging way back 2007. I love my main blog very much and I will not just allow it to let go.

Wish me luck!

I missed an interview for Mel and Joey Father’s Day Special

Today is Father’s Day, and children from all walks of life are celebrating with their fathers. I am glad that I have no work today to have time for my family, although we do not have plans of going out to celebrate.

But somehow, I feel sad that I missed a rare chance of being featured on national TV. Yes, a once in lifetime opportunity has just passed and I blew it away. Unfortunately, I missed an interview for Mel and Joey on their Father’s Day special.

Here is my sad story.

Last June 7, I received a message on my Facebook from a certain Shoh Mondragon. According to the message, I was invited to be interviewed which will be featured on one of the finest TV shows of GMA7, Mel & Joey and is being aired every Sunday night. Apparently, Shoh left a contact number so I can acknowledge immediately.

But since I am very busy working all day, it took me another week before I read the message. Sad to say, Shoh informed me that the line up for the Father’s Day special is already complete and my reply is late. However, I told Shoh that they can still mention my name and that I have a Father Blogger dot Com blog which is about parenting, marriage, and blogging.

Now, should I blame myself for not checking my Facebook account regularly? Should I include my contact number on my Facebook profile although it is not safe? Should I pity myself or blame my employer? Should I be thankful that I missed it because I am really busy these days? Or should I accept the fact that it is yet my time to be a star? Lol!

But anyway, I think I learned my lesson well. I realized that having a Facebook account is more than just having fun, it is also a responsibility. It is not only exposing your self to the world and meeting old friends, but also possibly having new ones. It is a wide window to let others what you got and what you can share. For businessmen, it is a free marketing strategy that can help their business grow and to communicate with their customers.

For now, I am still hoping that there will be another chance not only to show what I have but also to help fellow parents as well as to guide lovers and couples. I would also like to thank Shoh for finding me, and I assumed she browsed my parenting blog before she left the message. This means she liked it and saw that it is an interesting topic for Father’s Day.

By the way, I am a great fan of Mel and Joey since day one and even when Mr. Jay Sonsa was still on the show and on the other channel. The show is hosted by highly respected news anchor Mel Chiangco, with Comedy Ace and artist Mr. Joey de Leon,The show features interesting topics and also gives tips about different aspects in life, and they do it with fun. The show also exposes the lighter side of Mel Chiangco and the serious side of Joey de Leon, which makes it more enjoyable to watch.

I then hope you will have time to watch it regularly just like I do, especially tonight on their Father’s Day Special. I am sure that fathers and children will learn a lot and even mothers too. I wish they will invite me again next year and will make sure that I will not miss the chance again.

But just like my brother said, it takes a good sperm to be a father but it takes a good man to be a great father.

Happy Father’s Day!

Working all day without overtime pay

Yes, it has been more than two months that I have been working all day without overtime pay. To most of us, this is a nightmare since we know we should be paid accordingly in excess of eight hours a day or forty-eight hours a week. In some countries, people are even being paid in hourly basis and therefore working time is strictly being considered.

But then, I think that it is better to work without overtime pay rather than not to have a work at all. One might think that companies like them are taking advantage, but not for me. As months went by, I realized that I made the right decision accepting the job offer although I know not everybody will agree with me. Not unless they read this post until the end.

First of all, I know this will happen since it has been discussed to me during the job interview four months ago, in which I agreed. The employer told me that I will be paid on a monthly basis but no overtime pay. The pay seems to be fair so I readily accepted the terms and conditions. I also understand how tough it is to be a Manufacturing Supervisor since it was my last job and I have been there for almost seven years. The only difference is that I am receiving overtime pay.

According to my present employer, my working hours is from 8am to 6pm from Monday to Thursday and 8am-5pm on Fridays. The excess of one hour on the first fours days shall go to Saturday and therefore I do not need to work on this day although I am already paid halfday. Sunday then is my rest day, or what we call family day.

But starting May or last month, I have been working from 6am and I usually leave the office at 7pm including Saturdays. I have been working on three consecutive Sundays, all of them whole day and without overtime pay. Now, call we call it illegal or abusive on the part of my employer? I do not think so since I am not really being forced to do it. I know my responsibilities and I feel the sense of urgency of the task given to me. But of course, it is more than that.

Not all employees and workers will agree with me, but I believe that we are being paid not for the hours we work but rather on how we work. Some employees do their job as they are told, but not more than that. Afterward, they expect to receive a high appraisal rate during the evaluation period. They do not realize that they have been paid already during payday. If they render overtime, they are also being paid accordingly.

Now, let us talk about quality and responsibility. If you are controlling quality in your work, then you will minimize your mistakes. If you minimize your mistake, then you are also helping the company to save money. But if are also controlling quality in the work of your co-workers or fellow employees, then you are also helping the company saving a lot of money. It may not be your job anymore but it is what I call sense of responsibility, and this is when your employer will love you more. Employers love employees who work more than they are being expected.

The same thing goes when you work all day without overtime pay, but of course with high quality and sense of responsibility. However, you should make sure that your employer feels you and the credit will not be on someone else. To achieve this, you will need a mature superior who will motivate you and guide you all the way. You should also be supported by your colleagues and other concerned departments. Most of all, your employer should recognize your excess effort. Otherwise, you will not enjoy your work.

So now, which do you think is better? Being paid as you work or working all day without overtime pay? Not to mention if your employer gives high bonus rate every six months.

Philippine Automated Election 2010 Scandal

As I am writing this post, the first Philippine automated election is still going on and I heard it will be extended from 6pm to 7pm to make sure all voters will be entertained. I must admit, I am excited to vote hoping that my country will change for the better.

So together with my wife, we went to a elementary school in a town here in Batangas at around 9am. We transferred our voter’s registration here since we have been living for more than 2 years.

Anyway, the weather is hot and people are falling in long lines. As usual, there were some people inside the school giving away sample ballots where names and photos of candidates appear.

After almost two hours of sweat and thirst, I am now near the door when suddenly I witnessed what I can call the Philippine automated election 2010 scandal.

A top local elected official came waving, along with two police escorts. She is running for another top local position, probably because she will finish her second term and she is temporarily not allowed to run for the same position.

All eyes are at her as she went straight inside the room and shook hand with almost everybody. I thought she belongs to the senior citizens group since she was prioritized, but I did not see her show her Senior Citizen’s card.

Amusingly, she seems confused on what to do so the election officers gladly assisted her. Finally, she cast her vote in less than ten minutes and left the room. But I was more amused with her attitude as she was leaving the room. She smiled a lot and talked to the people outside the room (including me), and kept reminding us about her candidate number!

I am new here in this town and I am not yet familiar with politicians here. So I asked some of our trusted neighbors whom they think deserve their vote, and the name of that candidate was very popular.

As I am casting my vote, I realized that there is a reason why it took me that long before I can vote. It did not really gave a sign whom I should vote, but at least I learned that one candidate do not deserve to win.

I know some of you also witnessed the same kind of election scandal, so I urge you to voice it out and do not allow such candidates to rape our country.

Who should you vote in the First Philippine Automated Election 2010

The long wait is over not only for all the candidates, but also for all the Filipinos who will be part of the first Philippine automated election 2010. By this time, we have heard enough about the candidates as the campaign gets over.

We have also witnessed their campaign strategies and watched their expensive infomercials, and how they criticize each other. We may also have an idea on how much they have spend just to inform us that they want to win.

But while Comelec is still convincing us that there will be only minimal problems, the question is still who should you vote tomorrow, May 10. If you are not yet sure who should you vote for, then you should read this post until the end.

First of all, I think a president should be a man or a woman who is dreaming to become a president someday. In his early age, he should be monitoring the status of his country and will start planning on what to do if he will be elected. Along the process, he will study about economics and money investments and will be successful in his business ventures. He does not need to start in a poor family though, but rather in a decent family where there is love and respect.

On the other hand, he should be able to choose his friends who will guide him to his dream. They will be his connections and introduce him to different aspects of being a president. He does not need to be a lawyer though, but more of a law abider. He should be a disciplined citizen, a humanitarian, and a lover of peace and nature. However, he should know when to get mad and wear an iron fist if necessary. In addition, he should stand with his own principles even only a few agree with him.

Lastly, he should have a strong faith with his God whoever he is and will respect other religion. He should understand the separation of the state and the church, and will not use his religion to make money for his candidacy. But most of all, he should be a strong leader and ready to face all kinds of challenges.

For the vice president, he or she should also be ready to act as president anytime. However, he should not join forces with a presidential candidate or transfer another political party just to have a greater chance of winning. Once elected, he should not join any conspiracy just to oust the president and respect what the president says. In short, he should patiently wait for his time.

For senators and congressmen, they should have a deep knowledge about the law since they will be more of a lawmaker rather than an investigator. This is the problem that is getting worst in Philippine politics, and being abused by politicians. Being in a legislative seat does not require you to build streets and schools where your name is printed as if your money was spend for that project. It is funny that there are mayors and governors who run for congress because they are spending their last term. Sad to say, this contagious disease is vice versa.

For party list representative which is usually taken for granted, you should understand that they are similar to congressman but will instead represent a marginalized sector, say farmers. These days, some politicians (even businessman and religious leaders) are smart enough to use this tactics to rape our country. So before you choose one, know its leader and investigate if his representation is valid and legal.

To me, there’s nothing wrong with using your family name or popularity when running for a government position. But you should be able to prove something before going into a high position, instead of telling us that you can help the poor. Besides, it is the taxpayers who are building the economy of the country and not the poor. Most poor people are depending on the government instead of thinking how they can help themselves and the country.

I have been raised in a very poor family, but I did not ask anything nor steal from anybody. My debts are getting higher but I am paying my taxes. I work hard and learning how my money can work for me instead of blaming the government. After all, corruption can be a part of any job and only each of us can prevent it if we really want to.

I let the government do its thing, but I take responsibility on who I will vote for.

So let us prove to these politicians that voting is all about dignity.

Let us show the world how much we love our country.

Pope Benedict XVI to take actions on Catholic Church scandal

Finally, after a bit of silence Pope Benedict XVI announced that he will take actions on Catholic Church scandal as reported on BBC News.

This is after the Pope was being accused of failing to act over complaints during the 1990s, where a certain Fr Lawrence Murphy is believed to have molested some 200 boys at St John's School for the Deaf in St Francis, Wisconsin, between 1950 and 1974.

Speaking in Rome at his weekly general audience, he referred to his weekend meeting with abuse victims in Malta.

"I shared with them their suffering and, with emotion, I prayed with them, promising them action on the part of the Church," the Pope said.

Earlier, the Pope also apologized previously for similar acts committed in the US and Australia but has said nothing publicly about similar scandals which took place for many years in his own country, Germany, including at the school where his own brother was choirmaster.

It can also be remembered that the leaders of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (Snap) demonstrated in front of St Peter's Square in Rome, holding up pictures of Fr Murphy and some of his victims.

Pope Benedict then only has to look down from his study window overlooking St Peter's square to see that the wave of international protest against his silence has arrived on his own doorstep.

At a news conference on Thursday in Milwaukee, one of the victims, Arthur Budzinski, said Fr Murphy had begun to assault him when he was 12.

The Catholic Church teaches that it is also a particularly grave sin, in theory subject to extreme sanctions, but the evidence is that priests accused of molesting children were usually moved to another parish rather than being punished or removed from office.

I attended the Batangas Bloggers Food Trip at SM City Lipa

This post is one week late, but I suppose it is better late than never. Anyway, I was fortunate enough to be invited to attend the Batangas Bloggers Food Trip at SM City Lipa last April 18.

Actually, I am usually online during Saturdays and Sundays only due to my busy schedule at work. Last Saturday April 17, my good blogger-friend Itot invited me through Facebook to attend that event which will be on the next day.

That was around 7pm and I thought it was too late for me to be informed, but I am glad I made it and I even brought along a good friend who has been blogging since 2003 - Raden Payas.

Apparently, he was the first one who introduced me to blogging back in 2007 and I am just glad he did.

But back to last event, it was not the first Batangas Bloggers event at SM Lipa as Raden claimed. I remember I shared to you the event which took place when I finally met Marhgil Macuha in person.

This time, I noticed that he is into dieting while Mrs. Macuha is in good shape...lol! JR Cantos of www.wowbatangas.com was also there whom I also met on the last event.

But before we enjoyed that free bunch of good meals, Ms. Wendy Cueto-Bautista who is the SM City Lipa PR Officer introduced us and asked a few questions related to our experience in blogging.

Afterward, it's time to chow and one could just imagine how delicious the food was. No wonder, the sponsors include Kusina ni Gracia, Inihaw Express, Chin’s Express, Sizzling Plate, Seafood Grill Station, Potato Madness, Khaleb’s Shawarma, Chicharon Espesyal, Thirsty Juices and Shakes, Chef Chow Shabu, Miguelito’s Soft Ice Cream.

By the way, did I mention about the strong and free Wi-Fi connection inside the SM City Lipa Foodcourt?

And to add spices to the program, there were raffles and I won the consolation prize of beauty products from Watson. Itot won the digital camera as the grand raffle prize.

With that, I wish I will be invited again and I hope next time more Batangas bloggers will come.

Philippine Election 2010: The Plans of Manny Villar for OFWs

Many has been said about Manny Villar being an giant businessman and entrepreneur, and his rags-to-riches life story; but only a few has been mentioning about his real plans in case he will be elected in the upcoming presidential election this May 2010.

Interestingly, one of the dreams of Manny Villar dreams is when Filipinos do not have to leave their country to earn a living. His long-term plan is to provide jobs for Filipinos in the Philippines while his short term plan is to provide safety nets to ensure the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

With this, I found an an interesting article at OFW Guide which is about the plans of Manny Villar for OFWs.

1. Create a safety net until such time as we can create jobs in the Philippines like provide for placement for workers who were victimized or a return trip back to the Philippines.

2. Increase the Department of Labor & Employment (DOLE) budget.

3. Have to change structure of Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) so more Filipinos can be sent out.

4. Send more lawyers for OFWs.

5. Provide Hospitals for OFWs.

6. Help OFWs find ways to invest.

7. Create government programs for small and medium enterprises.

8. Change the banking system to ensure flow and credit for small and medium enterprises.

9. Teach and encourage Filipinos to be entrepreneurs.

Well, I think this is a very noble plan and I hope these are also the plans of other presidential candidates. But can it be done? Are the Filipinos ready to sacrifice that much?

Manny Villar or any presidential candidate cannot achieve this alone, since working abroad is a personal choice. However, the last part of the plan which is to teach and encourage Filipinos to be entrepreneurs is the best part.

Disclaimer:

Angel Cuala is not campaigning Manny Villar for President. He just wishes to educate Filipinos about his plans in case we will win.

If you have ideas about the plans of other presidential candidates, please spread the word so they will know how to vote wisely.

Why the Philippines will never have a Good President

I have been exercising my vote this since the Marcos regime, but all the presidential candidates that I voted for did not win. It is maybe because I have been choosing the wrong candidate or maybe only a few of us know how to vote wisely. The last reason I want to say is because of rampant cheating, and I hope I made you smile a bit.

Anyway, I did not say that the past presidents have been bad. But I truly believe that a good president may not always start as a good presidential candidate. Apparently, the election here in the Philippines is still very far from what I expect. Well, it’s maybe because we never learn or we do not want to learn.

So before casting your vote this coming May, let me explain why I think the Philippines will never have a good president.

First of all, a good president may not exactly a good presidential candidate. A good presidential candidate should tell the nation that he can stop the corruption, maintain peace and order, and make our economy grow. Unfortunately, he will need more than a billion pesos just to make him popular. Otherwise, only a few will notice him.

Consequently, he will need huge machinery and a lot of friends to help his face scattered all over the country. He will also need to have a few cash on his wallet when someone asks him for help. If he cannot even afford to sponsor a few events, then he will be as good as a nuisance candidate. Needless to say, he should also be kind to the media people if he wants his image to be exposed nicely.

Now, let us assume that he is good enough as a candidate so he will win; but his headache has just began. It’s payback time, my friends. We Filipinos are very friendly, you know. We sell our carabaos just to feed the whole barangay during fiestas, and even get a high-interest loan just to please our visitors on weddings. Interestingly, that’s just a part of our being a very hospitality people and being a good president.

On the other hand, honesty is also a part of being a good president. But who among us can say that he is always honest? If he does, then he is not being honest. Will you tell your potential foreign business investor that your country sucks? Have you ever known a president who did not get richer after his term? Can someone convince me that we did not have freedom after the World War 2?

My countrymen, corruption will never be stopped, poverty will always be ours, and killings will continue. Corruption is present because we allow it even in our homes. We are poor because we chose to be poor; we don’t bother to learn the stock market. There are killings because of our evil minds, and not because we have bad presidents. Therefore, all of these problems are our personal choices. We just look for reasons for not doing what we are supposed to do.

We are good citizens, industrious people, and humans who care for each other especially for our family. We are already talented, intelligent, and highly skilled; but foreign countries are getting the more benefits out of us. Most bright workers are leaving the country to serve other countries. No wonder, our country is being left behind in terms of almost everything.

The OFWs suffer a lot for their families and their future, but not for their country. They may be bringing home pride and honor but it is the country that they worked for that will feel the long term effect of their act. A hero suffers a lot for his country, and sometimes even forgets that he has a family. A hero is someone doing the right thing at the right place at the right time.

Now, here’s the kicker. The reason why the Philippines will not have a good president is because we don’t need one. What we need for a president is a smart one who knows when to lie and when to tell the truth, a tough president who can handle tough situations like natural calamities and terrorism. He should also have an iron hand if necessary, and has Mathematics as one of his favorite subjects so he cannot easily be fooled by numbers. Finally, we need a president who can motivate us to love our country more than anywhere else.

Don’t worry, I will still cast my vote this coming May although I am quite sure that my chosen presidential candidate will not win. I got used to it, and I am even proud of it simply because I know how to vote wisely.

I hope you do too…

GMA7 vs ABS CBN 2 2010: And the winner is…

This year 2010, GMA7 vs ABS CBN 2 continues as these two giant local TV networks aim to win the number one TV station. For all you know, ABS CBN 2 restored its power after the People Power in 1986, while GMA7 is now celebrating its 60th year anniversary. Needless to say, each of them has its own different strategy to win the majority of the audience although there are times I feel that they are copying each other.

Meanwhile, it is interesting to know each other’s strong points and weak points. With that, allow me to share my observations which are not intended to degrade anybody. Instead, I hope they will be used as a guide so they can improve more.

So is it GMA7 (Kapuso) or ABS CBN 2 (Kapamilya) this 2010? And the winner is…

The early morning show of ABS CBN 2’s Umagang Kay Ganda has Anthony Taberna as their ace, while Pinky Web and Karen Davila (a former GMA7 news anchor) are continuously improving. I have been watching GMA7’s Unang Hirit since day one, and I got used to Arnold Clavio and the rest of the gang. Love Anover deserves her throne as the Reyna ng Kalsada (Queen of the Streets) for her traffic update and other stuff, although puppet Arn-Arn rarely adds spice to the show. Mareng Winnie Monsod has sharp comments but Anthony Taberna has the sharper ones.

For the noontime show, ABS CBN 2’s Wowowie seem to win a bigger crowd now but it cannot put GMA 7’s Eat Bulaga down easily. It must be remembered that Eat Bulaga once aired at ABS CBN 2, while GMA7’s Lunchdate only got closer due to the popularity of Randy Santiago. Don’t forget also that Eat Bulaga is now on its 30th year which means the star magic of Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon never run out of style.

Apparently, Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) consistently shines from the first season and the recent Melason effect can still be felt. Young love teams like Gerald-Kim are now with the veterans, which make them better actors rather than just sweet love team idols. The Albert Martinez-Gabby Concepcion back to back brings us back to the 80s and a lot better this time. As for me, the teleserye of ABS CBN are better than the fantaserye of GMA7 maybe because the latter focuses on the younger audience.

In terms of great actresses of today, Judy Ann Santos is again the teleserye queen on her Habang May Buhay at ABS CBN 2, although Claudine Baretto (a former ABS CBN drama talent) might have a good fight when she makes a comeback at GMA7 in the near future. Marian Rivera may be the latest superstar of GMA7 and in her own right, but I notice that she is starting to lose her charisma. I also feel that ABS CBN 2 has better story writers than GMA7 these days.

Meanwhile, Regine Velasquez and boyfriend Ogie Alcacid may be the King and Queen of local music industry today but GMA7’s Sunday noontime show SOP is already gone. Although Party Pilipinas was recently launched, the effect on fans is still hard to assume. GMA7 may have a lot more music talents than ABS CBN 2, but ABS CBN 2 has put a stronger impact plus they have Charice Pempengo on the side. In terms of talent search shows, It’s Showtime and Pilipinas Got Talent which are both from ABS CBN 2 are far better than GMA7’s Diz Is It and its other talent search shows.

On the other hand, Kris Aquino is still the Queen of Talks and continuous to be among the most controversial and influential individuals of today. It is hard to say though how things will be different after the May 2010 election, while her brother Noynoy Aquino continuous to be a very strong presidential candidate. Furthermore, Kuya Kim continues to shine while Vice Ganda is unstoppable with his (I mean her) brand of comedy and talent, as well as Ted Failon who is so adorable in his comeback at Failon Ngayon.

But for journalism and serious issues, I suppose everyone will agree if I say that GMA7 is better. I sleep early but I don’t mind waking up very early in the morning just to watch the replay of shows like Reporter’s Notebook, Case Unclosed, and others. Kara David, Howie Severino, and the rest of the team are simply incomparable. I am even not surprised that Jessica Soho ranked third as the most trusted Filipino in the recent Readers’s Digest survey since she is very human. In addition, Mel Tiangco is always at her best at Kapuso Foundation, while Mike Enriquez remains as the best ever Imbestigador ng Bayan.

GMA7 vs ABS CBN 2 2010 is still far from over, and a lot of things can still happen. But for the meantime, I think the winner in terms of journalism and public service is GMA7 but ABS CBN 2 is winning in the entertainment field.

But of course, the issue of who is copying who will never end.

In the end, I just wish that both of them will continue to be responsible and committed to serve the Filipinos worldwide especially for the children.

Secret Millionaire Grace Groner Donated $7M to Alma Mater Lake Forest College

Grace Groner, a woman who lived in a one-bedroom house in Lake Forest but a secret millionaire, donated $7 million to her Alma mater Lake Forest College at Illinois when she died last January at the age of 100.

Groner, who never got married and never had children finished liberal arts school at Lake Forest College in 1931. She made her fortune after purchasing three $60 stocks of Abbot Laboratories in 1935 where she worked as a secretary for 43 years.

Her donation will help 1,300 students of Lake Forest College take internships and study abroad, experiences that many of them would never have had without her help.

Below is the video report about the story of Grace Groner from ABC's Good Morning America.

Her story truly inspires me and I hope that it also inspires you. This only proves that making money is not the wealthiest way of living but it is how you spend it.

Pilipinas now got a lot of Talent Search shows, so what’s next?

Last night, I was able to watch the latest talent search show on local TV. The show is Pilipinas Got Talent and aired on ABS-CBN 2. Interestingly, it is being shown simultaneously with Talentadong Pinoy (Talented Filipinos) by ABC5 and GMA7’s Bitoy Showtime.

Although GMA7’s Eat Bulaga which is longest running daily noontime TV in the world has a portion with the talent search, ABS-CBN 2 is doing great at It’s Showtime despite of some controversies.

I believe it is the Talentadong Pinoy that started the trend in accommodating different talents in one show. Meanwhile, ABS CBN 2 and GMA7 copied the concept and just trying to improve by adding some features.

With the rapid growth of different talent search shows here in the Philippines today, this only means that Filipinos are really talented. So what’s next?

If I count them correctly, I think there are now 6 existing talent search shows here in the Philippines and people with different talents flock from one talent search show to another. Some sing, perform magic trick and stunts, but most of them dance in groups. These talent search shows allows the contestants to market their talents, which gives them opportunities to have an additional income or a promising career.

However, I wonder if all of them have a good first screening part. I can see some singing contestants with no talent at all in singing, and they have the guts to perform live on TV. Maybe the staff of the show still approves them thinking that they can add entertainment to the audience, while the poor contestants don’t mind being humiliated since they are only after the consolation prize and exposure.

On the other hand, the audience will always be looking for something new. If some current talent search shows will not be managed carefully, they will be left out and will vanish instantly. We all know that having a talent search show is a very profitable business, but the investment is also very high. Filipinos are good copy cats but sometimes the purpose is not good, crab mentality that is.

But anyway, I am more concerned about the singing talents. I cannot sing well, but I am a music lover. I am amazed by Charice Pempengco who eventually captured Oprah’s heart, and I know she can still go farther. Again, I know that Filipinos are very talented and can be globally competitive given the right packaging and attitude.

However, I still believe that art requires originality and singers should have their own signature song. There must be a song composed exclusively for that singer that can be made popular through the ages. Otherwise, she may run out of songs to sing and will only be remembered as a talented singing idol and not a singer. Although she can go with the trend of remake songs, having a signature song is always better.

With that, I hope these talent search shows will also showcase songs with original composition. I wish they can bring back the Metro Pop Music Festival alive the way it used to be, or a similar show. I know there are a lot of great song composers out there just waiting for their chance to show their talents.

Unfortunately, I am not one of them although it is one of my frustrations.

Noynoy Aquino: The most trusted politician today on Readers Digest survey

Yes, presidential candidate Noynoy Aquino is the most trusted politician today. This was according to the latest survey on Readers Digest March 2010 edition.

Actually, this news as reported by GMA7 whose four top journalists landed also on the top. They are Jessica Soho (3rd), Howie Severino (6th), Mel Tiangco (9th), and Mike Enriquez (13th).

Readers Digest said the list of 80 people was presented in random order to the respondents who were asked to rate the people on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 means that they don't trust at all while 10 means they trust completely the person.

"We then calculated an average score for each and ranked them in order of perceived trustworthiness," Readers Digest said.

The survey was conducted in October 2009 by independent market research company The Digital Edge on behalf of Readers' Digest.

Meanwhile, actress and philanthropist Rosa Rosal was named the most trusted Filipino, while world-renowned singer and actress Lea Salonga ranked second.

Philanthropist Tony Meloto, founder of Gawad Kalinga, ranked fourth on the list while Noynoy Aquino ranked fifth.

"With the passing of his mother last year, there is a sense of sentimentality attached to Aquino," Etchells wrote.

Interestingly, today's number one boxer Manny Pacquiao landed on the 36th spot. If you're interested to know the spot of President Gloria Arroyo, she is on the 78th who is slightly lower than former first lady Imelda Marcos, who is on the 74th spot.

But back to Noynoy Aquino, I think this will help him convince the Filipinos more that he is really trustworthy. But in my opinion, I think he should also prove that he can lead the country in terms of economy, peace and order, and graft and corruption. In terms of corruption, he will have to do a lot of work although being trustworthy can play a vital role to eliminate it.

Again, I am not here to campaign or destroy any candidate. I just want to share some information hoping that all of us know how to vote wisely.

How to Pass the Final Job Interview

I have worked for more than 5 different companies with different kinds of industries such as electronics and automotive industry. I started as an Industrial Electrician, Technician, until I reached the supervisory position for Engineering and Manufacturing. I have been a supervisor for ten years, and one of my tasks is to do the final interview for production and engineering applicants.

I have been an employee for more than 15 years, and I have found a new job. I suppose I now have enough experience to give tips to job applicants on how to pass the final job interview.

They may not be assurance that you will be hired, but understanding each item will surely help a lot.

Know the important details of the company

On the first interview, it is usually the Human Resources Department (HRD) personnel that will interview you. It is more like getting to know about you, which includes confirming what is written in your resume. The final interview on the other hand, is more of what you can offer to help the company. You can share your ideas only if you know the important details of the company. This includes their product, system of management, and business history. Therefore, check their website and write them down. Also, find current or previous employees that you can ask for more details. Interviewers love applicants who know a lot about their company.

Dress appropriately

Dress appropriately depends on what position you are applying for. If it needs to be formal attire, then prepare for it. Choose the clothes that are not too flashy, but impressive enough. If you are applying for a laborer position, it does not mean you can wear anything. Be neat and presentable to the eyes of the interviewer. Remember that first impression last, and you will be judged you the way you present yourself. Therefore, wear clothes that represent your character and make sure you feel comfortable with them. Otherwise, the interviewer will notice that you’re not at ease and might think that you lack self confidence.

Come early

Some experts will tell you to come early at least 10 minutes before the scheduled interview, and I agree with them. This is for you to be more relaxed during the interview or to have time to go to the restroom to fix your self a bit more. This will also avoid you to be late in case of traffic or some road accident. However, this may also add pressure to you especially if there are other applicants that you will look better than you. In this case, talk with them so that you will have an idea on how you can project yourself better.

Maximize your time

Usually, the interviewer will require you to do is to introduce yourself for around a minute. Therefore, you should maximize your time and tell only the important information that they need to know. Focus on the credentials that you think may fit to their requirements, but don’t mention things that you cannot explain further. On the other hand, you do not need to explain them the full details of the technical skills you have since these interviewers are the top personnel of the company. They are more interested in how you present your self. They watch your body language and analyze how you choose the right words to say.

Don’t waste their time

Their time is more important than yours so don’t waste their time. Answer directly to the point and avoid pausing for a long time. Practice at home especially if you are a first time applicant. Search for the possible interview questions and prepare for the closest answer. Usually on the last part, you will be given the chance to ask so take it. However, never ask about the incentives that you may receive. Related questions are being discussed earlier, and salary agreement is after passing the final interview. Instead, ask questions that are related to the company like their status during economic crisis or their future plans about the company.

There is one important thing that you should understand before going to a final job interview. You are there because you are asking for a favor, and not the other way around. You may possess the qualities they need for the job, but it’s how you present them that matters most.

Remake Songs: The Art to Save the Music Industry

If you are in the Philippines, you will notice that revival or remake songs are rampant today as compared than ever. I don’t know in your place, but I suppose it now consists of ninety percent of all the songs here in my country. There are still new songs but old songs are still better, which is why artists are reviving them.

Although remake songs add bonding time for me and my teenage daughter, I feel most of them were not done in good faith. I have been a music lover since my younger years, and I know there are had been remake songs before. However these days, I seldom appreciate the way old songs are being remake.

In fact, I see them as just an art to save the music industry. Let me elaborate further.
If you have been a music lover since the 80s, you now miss the New Wave and rock music. Pop music has been conquered by Michael Jackson with his all-time best selling album Thriller. Local and foreign love songs also hit the airwaves, and new albums are being released almost every month by different artists.

Similarly, big money is being spent to come up with attractive MTV. I even remember some songs were being used as Official Soundtrack (OST) for famous Hollywood films. They add spice to the movie and make them more unforgettable. Who will ever forget the songs The Moment of Truth for Karate kid and Eye of the Tiger for Rocky? Well, rap music is fine but most of them is about anger and has foul language.

Here in the Philippines, wonderful songs were being used as the movie title so as the movie theme song. But today, old songs are being remake and are being used as the title of a movie or telenovela. However, some old songs are being remake over and over again by different artists and with only a very short period of time in between them.

But why are remake songs a trend these days?

Is it because of the never ending industry of piracy that loses the interests of song composers? Is it because we rarely give credit to song composers, and they die poor? Is it because songs these days can easily be downloaded for free and producers don’t want to invest that much anymore? Is it because of the overcrowded talent search for singing, but none for song composers? Should we blame Vidoeoke and You Tube because anyone can sing any song easily?

For whatever reason, I still believe that music is an art but you cannot remake it. You need creativity and originality, and it does not matter if Lady Gaga looks weird to some of us. You cannot call someone a singer without his original signature song, although he can be called as song interpreter.

It is a must that we save the dying music industry, but it is also a must that we save the art of music.

Meanwhile, I prefer listening to old but original songs rather than remake songs that were made just to save the music industry.
